No HTTPS? Not on my watch.

Good news for all of my WordPress web design clients who use my hosting services. As of this weekend, ALL of my WordPress sites will have a SSL certificate and run HTTPS exclusively. HTTPS enables both the best performance the web offers and powerful new features that are too sensitive for HTTP.

A bit of history: In January, Google began their quest to improve how Chrome communicates the connection security of HTTP pages. Chrome now marks HTTP pages as “Not secure” if they have password or credit card fields. Beginning in October 2017, Chrome will show the “Not secure” warning in […]

Arch Plumbing & Heating WordPress Web Design

In the beginning of 2017, I was tasked with creating a new logo, brand, and WordPress website for Arch Plumbing & Heating of Mansfield, MA. Starting from scratch, I fused a water drop with a flame to create the logo. Artie is a HUGE NE Patriots fan and often wears his Patriots hat, so it was perfect to use a red, white and blue color scheme.  I wanted to use a strong and chunky bold font for part of the name and a normal variation for the remainder text, so we ended up going with Franklin Gothic Heavy.

Website navigation usability

Website navigation usability is the most crucial element in design.

It makes the difference between a website where users find what they are looking for and one which causes so much frustration that users want to abandon it.

The whole point of designing a website is to allow access the content, so the success of the design depends entirely on the quality of navigation user experience.

It has the same as the navigation of a ship out at sea, which can mean life or death to the sailors on board. A website that provides a poor navigation loses conversions and can kill the […]

Client security update check-in!

Recently, I’ve noticed an uptick in activity related to hacking and unauthorized attempted access of databases and accounts. I’m taking every measure I can to protect client websites, primarily using Wordfence for WordPress clients and RS Firewall for Joomla! clients.

I receive weekly briefings on every client account and if I see anything suspicious or receive an alert of any kind, you’ll be notified as soon as I know. If at any time you want to upgrade to a pro account for your site, you can check out details at http://www.wordfence.com and https://www.rsjoomla.com/joomla-extens…/joomla-security.html.

There are other firewall security extensions, however, these two […]

Ditch Stock Photography
Ditch stock photos and take or use some of your own photography. People want to connect with your business when visiting online, so it should organically feel like your business. Photography is the easiest way of accomplishing this, and it doesn’t always have to be professional. Some of my most successful websites have featured photos taken with an iPhone. The photo above of Crane Beach, is unedited, and was taken by myself with an iPhone 6.

Also, it can save $$. Professional photography is great of course, but it can be expensive for a small business starting out.
